The Board has unanimously appointed Mr. Dan Levert as the new Chair, effective April 3, 2025.

Dr. MacKinnon has served as Chair of the Board since 2011, bringing to the organization a wealth of experience, insight, and leadership. Under her guidance, OLHI has navigated critical milestones, solidifying its position as a public, independent and impartial complaint resolution service.

“Dr. MacKinnon’s contributions to OLHI have been immeasurable,” said Stéphanie Robillard, Executive Director and Ombudsman. “Her vision, commitment to excellence, and passion for public service have left a lasting legacy. On behalf of the entire Board and organization, we extend our deepest gratitude for her remarkable leadership”.

Incoming Chair Mr. Dan Levert is a professional engineer and construction lawyer from St. John’s, Newfoundland. He is a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada, and of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers. He brings extensive experience in dealing with multiple stakeholders, consensus building, alternative dispute resolution, and the law, and has served on OLHI’s Board since 2022. His appointment reflects the Board’s commitment to strong, forward-looking governance and continued impact.

Dr. MacKinnon will remain as a Director of the Board until OLHI’s Annual General Meeting on September 16, 2025, and in an advisory capacity during the transition period to ensure continuity and support.

About the OmbudService for Life & Health Insurance

The OmbudService for Life & Health Insurance (OLHI) is Canada’s only independent complaint resolution service for consumers of Canadian life and health insurance. Canadians trust us to review their insurance complaints about life, disability, employee health benefits, travel, and insurance investment products such as annuities and segregated funds. OLHI’s free bilingual services are available to any consumer whose insurance company is an OLHI member – and, currently, 99% of Canadian life and health insurers are. OLHI also offers general information online about life and health insurance. To ensure impartiality, OLHI’s operations are overseen by the Canadian Council of Insurance Regulators (CCIR).
